Nowadays, everyone is concerned with saving the planet, and that's understandable. We've done a lot to this poor globe, and we've got to start making up for lost time. Therefore, many people have started to contribute in different as the ways. Some people have become activists, pushing for better treatment of rainforests or animals or the like. Others pitch in with less obvious contributions, like planting trees or driving energy-friendly cars. It is probably understandable for people in the spotlight, many an actor or movie maker has started to do a little bit to change the way they treat our planet.
For example, it is the fashionable thing for anyone involved in Hollywood to drive a hybrid car. A hybrid car is a type of car that has an engine that incorporates both the traditional internal combustion engine and an electric propulsion system. With its lower fuel consumption - and therefore less toxic gas pollution - the hybrid is seen as what an environmentally conscious person should drive. There are several kinds of hybrid cars, with two of the most high profile ones being the Toyota Prius and the Chevrolet Volt. Many a celebrity has signed on to the hybrid bandwagon as part of an effort to reduce their “carbon footprint”.
Another way that people have adopted to help the environment is called tree planting. The basic idea involves transplanting – or just plain planting – trees into areas whose soil has been abraded and destroyed due to over-harvesting the trees that formerly grew there. Some of the high profile people who endorse this activity are music makers Coldplay, Kylie Minogue and the Rolling Stones and actor Leonardo DiCaprio. These celebs have commended the project as making a difference to the environmental community we are all a part of.
